The rain had not stopped for hours, but it was a light, warm spring rain. The leaves have unfurled in dizzying cascades of chartreuse, viridian. It will be a month or two yet before they deepen and thicken to shining emerald. They are soft and new, filtering the light instead of blocking it, and hearing the rain dripping down its thousand-stepped staircase of leaves to the loamy forest floor, smelling the sweet earthy scent of things green and growing, it is immediately apparent that the spring goddess is in attendance.
